Fireplace Tile Installation on Long Island

A fireplace surround is one of the highest-impact tile projects in a living space — especially in older Long Island colonials and ranches getting a refresh.

What we install

Full-surround fireplace tile in heat-rated porcelain, natural stone, slab-look porcelain, and patterned tile. Clearances are followed per manufacturer specs and local code.

Design considerations

Full-height tile from floor to ceiling looks dramatic and modern. Hearth-only tile keeps the look traditional. Either approach needs the right substrate and edge finish.

FAQ

Fireplace Tile Installation — Frequently Asked Questions

Can you tile over a brick fireplace?
In most cases yes, with proper substrate prep. We assess the brick and existing finish first.
What tile works for a fireplace surround?
For a non-combustible zone around a gas or electric fireplace, almost any porcelain, ceramic, or stone works. For wood-burning fireplaces, code requires non-combustible tile and we check clearances against your specific firebox spec.
Can you tile around an existing fireplace without removing it?
Yes — most of our Long Island fireplace projects work that way. We protect the firebox, install backer board where needed, and tile over the old surround. The before-and-after on these is dramatic.
Should the tile go all the way to the ceiling?
Floor-to-ceiling tile around a fireplace is a high-impact look that’s especially popular in Long Island living rooms and primary suites with vaulted ceilings. It also dresses up an otherwise plain wall above the mantel.
What tile size works best?
Large-format porcelain (24x24 and up) and slab-look tile look the most modern. Stacked stone, herringbone subway, and zellige-look ceramic also work beautifully — it depends on the design direction of the room.
